A joint team of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) seized a firearm and a cache of explosives during an operation at Sonasar in Zakirganj upazila on Saturday.
Recovered items include a locally made firearm, 11 detonators and 11 pieces of explosives.
According to the 19 BGB Battalion, the raid was launched following intelligence reports of illegal entry and storage of arms and explosives in the border region.
Around 10pm, a joint task force comprising the 19 BGB Battalion and RAB‑9 conducted the raid at Sonasar brickfield in Barothakuri union, about 1.5 kilometres inside Bangladesh from the zero line under Biyabail Border Outpost.
No arrests were made; the seizure was in an “accused‑less” condition. Preliminary investigations suggest the arms and explosives were smuggled into Bangladesh.
BGB officials said the recovery was the result of intensified intelligence surveillance and constant vigilance to prevent infiltration of arms, explosives, drugs and other contraband.
Legal procedures regarding the seizure are underway.
