Angelina Jolie has said she has not dated anyone since her separation from Brad Pitt in 2016, revealing that raising her six children became her primary focus following the end of their high-profile marriage.
Speaking while promoting her upcoming film ‘Couture’, the Hollywood actress reflected on her life nearly a decade after the breakdown of her relationship with Pitt, admitting that romance has largely taken a back seat.
“I’m thinking I have to live again. Be free again. In a way that maybe life has broken me a little bit,” Jolie told Yahoo Entertainment.
The actress also spoke about navigating what she described as a midlife crisis and said her daughters have helped her reconnect with parts of herself she felt she had lost over the years.
“I’m discovering something now that my daughters are older. They’re talking to me as young women, and I’m seeing what I want for them. I’m seeing what I don’t want them to lose and what I want them to hold on to,” she said.
Jolie added that watching her daughters grow has reminded her of qualities she wants them to retain, including “strength and openness and softness and faith and ferocity”.
“I think they kind of want me now to not just be ‘Mom’. There’s a different room for me to be that woman again, that’s not just a mom,” she said.
Jolie and Pitt became one of Hollywood’s most prominent couples after meeting on the set of ‘Mr & Mrs Smith’ in 2004. After more than a decade together, they married at their estate in France in August 2014 and raised six children: Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Knox and Vivienne.
The couple separated in 2016, beginning a lengthy and complex legal battle that concluded when their divorce was finalised in December 2024.
While Jolie said she has remained single since the split, Pitt has been linked to jewellery executive Ines de Ramon since 2022, with reports suggesting the couple could marry in the future.
Jolie is currently promoting ‘Couture’, in which she plays Maxine Walker, an American filmmaker whose life changes dramatically following a breast cancer diagnosis during Paris Fashion Week. The actress has said the role prompted her to confront questions about love, identity and the future.
She also revealed that she initially struggled with the idea that her character could be both a devoted mother and a woman open to love and connection.
