The government has decided to deploy army personnel in six districts including Dhaka and Chattogram from 22 to 30 June.
The decision has been taken to maintain law and order and to prevent any acts of sabotage on the founding anniversary of the Awami League, whose activities are currently banned.
On Monday, the Ministry of Home Affairs issued a letter regarding the matter.
Several officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs confirmed this information to Times of Bangladesh.
The areas where the army is being deployed are Dhaka metropolitan area, Chattogram metropolitan area, Gazipur metropolitan area, Narayanganj district, Gopalganj district and Faridpur district.
According to the letter, there are fears of sabotage and disorder in different parts of the country through illegal processions, showdowns and other programmes organised by various banned organisations. As a result, there is a possibility of deterioration in the law and order situation and extensive loss of life and property.
In this situation, army personnel are being deployed to maintain peace and order, ensure public safety, and protect people’s lives and property, the letter stated.
Meanwhile, to ensure security around the Awami League’s founding anniversary on 23 June, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has taken foolproof security measures.
