The University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) has launched the Creative Writing Certificate Course 2026, a six-week intensive programme on Writing Fiction organised by the Department of English and Humanities (DEH).
The course commenced last Friday and will conclude with a certificate-giving and showcase event on 1 August 2026, reads a press release.
The programme is designed for both aspiring and experienced writers seeking a supportive environment to develop their craft, share their work for feedback, and explore publication opportunities.
This year’s course combines theories of creative writing with extensive reading and writing exercises, enabling participants to engage directly with practising fiction writers and learn about diverse approaches to storytelling.
Throughout the programme, participants will write and workshop their own fiction pieces, receive detailed feedback during practical sessions, and refine their work for presentation at the closing showcase.
The course features an accomplished lineup of facilitators, including Shamsad Mortuza, vice chancellor and professor of English at ULAB; Kaiser Haq, dean of the School of Arts & Humanities and director of the Dhaka Translation Center at ULAB; Razia Sultana Khan, fiction writer and adviser to the Department of English and Modern Languages at Independent University, Bangladesh; Sohana Manzoor, fiction writer and translator; Iffat Nawaz, author of Shurjo’s Clan; Anmana Manishita, lecturer at BRAC University and fiction writer shortlisted for the Commonwealth Short Story Prize 2026; and Maisha Hossain, assistant professor at Francis Marion University, USA.
Since 2016, the Department of English and Humanities at ULAB has been organising the Creative Writing Certificate Course as a platform for nurturing creative talent.
