A Jamaat-led 11-party alliance has announced a protest rally in Dhaka on Tuesday, alleging delays in genocide trials, worsening law and order, and rising attacks on opposition activists.
The alliance will hold the rally in the capital’s Bijoynagar area on Tuesday afternoon, the same day of Awami League’s founding anniversary.
At a press conference on Monday morning at Jamaat’s central office in Moghbazar, alliance coordinator Hamidur Rahman Azad announced the programme.
He said the alliance decided to hold the protest rally on 23 June, the day of the Awami League’s founding anniversary, citing worsening law and order and political concerns.
Senior leaders of the 11-party alliance will attend the rally in Bijoynagar, he added.
Hamidur Rahman Azad alleged that the trial process for genocide cases remains slow. He also said law and order has deteriorated sharply and attacks on opposition activists have increased.
Azad noted the alliance is taking to the streets in protest over these issues.
At the press briefing, Azad further alleged failures over border killings and push-in incidents. He claimed that the overall law and order situation in the country is worsening.
He urged the government to take effective steps to ensure public safety and prevent political violence.
Earlier on Sunday night, top leaders of the alliance held a meeting where they decided to organise the rally in Dhaka on Tuesday.
