Moscow’s four airports suspended operations briefly on Monday after Russian air defence systems intercepted a wave of drones approaching the capital.
According to AFP, Russian aviation authorities temporarily closed the airports as security measures remained in place following the drone activity.
Authorities later announced that all four airports resumed operations at 5:39am local time (0239 GMT).
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said on Telegram that air defence units destroyed 59 drones that were heading towards the city.
Sobyanin did not identify the origin of the drones. However, Kyiv has regularly launched drone attacks inside Russian territory in response to Moscow’s continued strikes on Ukrainian cities.
Russian authorities did not immediately report any major damage from the intercepted drones. The airports reopened after officials lifted the temporary restrictions.
