Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has detained 19 Rohingyas from the Balukhali border area in Ukhiya while they were working at fish enclosures owned by local Bangladeshis.

The arrest was made around 12:30am on Tuesday when a special patrol team of Ukhiya Battalion (64 BGB) under Balukhali BOP conducted an operation.

According to BGB sources, the drive was carried out in the Rahmat’s Bill area inside Bangladesh, around one kilometre north-east of b oundary pillar BRM-20 and about 500 metres west of the zero line. The 19 Rohingya men were found working in local fish enclosures at the time of detention.

Later, they were handed over to Ukhiya Police Station. Legal procedures and case filing against them are underway, BGB said.

Commanding Officer of Ukhiya Battalion (64 BGB) Lieutenant Colonel Md Zahirul Islam said Rohingyas have no permission to move outside the camps or engage in local activities.

He said some dishonest groups are using them in different works, which is pushing them into various criminal networks.

He urged all sections of society to remain alert and avoid involving Rohingyas in any kind of activities, legal or illegal.

He also said the battalion regularly conducts operations to maintain border security, control drugs, and ensure peace and order in the border area.

Zahirul Islam added that public cooperation is essential to curb smuggling and other cross-border crimes, and operations will continue to maintain law and order in the area.
