Auto-rickshaw drivers have blocked roads leading to Mohammadpur, Bosila and Gabtoli in protest against a warning by the road transport and bridges minister that the vehicles would be barred from operating in Dhaka city within three days.

The drivers took up positions at the Mohammadpur intersection around 10am on Sunday, causing severe traffic congestion on surrounding roads.

Imam Hossain, an auto-rickshaw driver, said, “Our main demand is that we be allowed to operate our vehicles on the roads.”

Mohammadpur Police Station Officer-in-charge (OC) Md Abdul Halim said, “We are trying to bring the situation under control through talks with the protesters.”
