Six councillors have filed a writ petition in the High Court challenging the validity of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) election schedule and voter list ahead of the board’s election on 7 June.
A vacation bench of the High Court could hear the petition on Tuesday. The application targets both the election timetable and the voter list published for the BCB election process.
The BCB election commission announced the election schedule on 16 May. Under that timetable, voters will elect 23 directors on 7 June, with the result due on the same day.
The election commission published a draft voter list on 17 May. The six councillors have now questioned the legality of that list through the court petition.
After the election, the National Sports Council (NSC) will nominate two additional directors. The full board will then consist of 25 directors.
Those 25 directors will later vote to elect the next BCB president.
Senior Supreme Court lawyer Ahsanul Karim leads the election commission responsible for conducting the BCB election.
The court hearing comes days before voting and adds legal uncertainty to the final stages of the election process. The petitioners have not publicly detailed the specific grounds of their challenge in the information available so far.
