A clarification statement issued following the 25th anniversary celebration of Bangladeshi band Nemesis has addressed online criticism surrounding the band’s former member Maher Khan’s participation in the concert, while reaffirming his personal beliefs and longstanding bond with the group.
In a Facebook post on Sunday, the musician criticised those who had spread “negativity and distasteful comments” in reaction to his appearance at the anniversary programme. He wrote, “I feel sorry for you for allowing yourselves to stoop down so low. Please do better.”
He also clarified that his decision to take part in the event had been entirely personal and tied to emotional closure rather than any broader change in direction.
“My decision to be a part of 25-years of Nemesis was my own,” he said. “This was a one-time, once in a lifetime opportunity for me. This was about closure and brotherhood. Brotherhood is everything to me.”
The musician further stated that his faith remains unchanged, adding, “I’m still a man of God’s faith and shall choose to remain so.”
Reflecting on the audience response, he expressed gratitude towards supporters who welcomed his appearance at the celebration. He described the reaction as “overwhelmingly emotional” and thanked fans for respecting both his decision and his journey.
“It blows my mind that I have fans,” he wrote. “I thank all of you who support me and my decisions and showing me your love in the way that you did.”
The statement also included a message of appreciation for several close friends and fellow musicians, whom he credited for standing by him and offering continued support and respect over the years.
Among those mentioned were Md. Zohad Reza Chowdhury, Raquibun Nabi Ratul, Dio Haque, Yawar Mehboob, Sultan Rafsan Khan, Ifaz Abrar Reza, Jeffrey Ovijit and Omayr Khan.
