Hannah Einbinder has called on the US government to “bring an end” to Israel’s attacks on Gaza after the Hacks star was arrested during a protest against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s appearance at the United Nations in New York on Thursday.
According to AFP, Einbinder was among several actors and public figures detained as protesters blocked an intersection outside the UN ahead of Netanyahu’s address to the General Assembly. Susan Sarandon was also arrested.
After her release, Einbinder said she hoped images of protesters being detained would draw attention to Gaza and southern Lebanon. “The US government has the power to bring an end to all of this killing, pillaging, and land theft, yet instead it chooses to welcome the butcher of Gaza with open arms,” she wrote.
“Let us not mistake the spectacle for the story: genocide is the headline, and it is time for it to end,” she added.
The protest was organised by Jewish Voice for Peace. The group said more than 100 people were arrested, while Reuters reported at least 30.
Einbinder has previously spoken in support of Palestinians, including during her 2025 Emmy acceptance speech, which she ended with “free Palestine”.
