Detectives have detained five members of an online gambling ring during an operation in Atghoria, Pabna.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Rezinur Rahman confirmed the matter.
The detainees are Shariful Islam Sagor, 22, Shanto Hossain, 25, Sohanur Rahman Shakib, 22, Asadul Islam, 32, and Shariful Islam, 36.
ASP Rezinur said a DB team, acting on a tip‑off, raided the Debottar Bazar area around 8:30pm on Tuesday. Although the suspects tried to flee, police managed to detain five of them.
Six smartphones were seized, containing active IDs and transaction details on various online gambling apps and websites. Data on financial transactions through e‑payment apps was also recovered.
During primary interrogation, the detainees admitted to colluding to spread online gambling among youth, opening gambling IDs, and managing transactions via digital platforms.
ASP Rezinur added that a case under the Cyber Protection Act, 2026, is being processed against them.
