Indian Border Security Force (BSF) opened fire at Sonarhat border in Gowainghat upazila of Sylhet on Monday afternoon.
Members under Sylhet Battalion-48 of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) immediately responded with strong counter fire, bringing the situation under control.
No casualties were reported, and the border is now calm and stable, BGB said in a statement.
Following the incident, BGB intensified patrols and surveillance in the border area.
BGB said it remains on highest alert against any provocative or unwanted incidents along the frontier and continues to safeguard the country’s sovereignty and border security with professionalism and firmness.
Local representatives and border residents are being cautioned against illegal crossings and unauthorised activities in the border zone.
