Free Wi-Fi service has been launched at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, allowing around 37,000 passengers to access high-speed internet simultaneously.
The service was inaugurated at 2pm on Sunday by Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam.
Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Faqir Mahbub Anam, State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism M Rashiduzzaman Millat and the Prime Minister’s Adviser on Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Rehan Asif Asad were also present at the event.
Speaking at a press briefing, Afroza Khanam said the government has delivered improved digital services for passengers in line with its election pledge of “fast and reliable internet for all” after assuming office.
She said, “The government hopes to inaugurate the third terminal soon, calling it an important milestone.”
State Minister Rashiduzzaman Millat said, “More than 37,000 passengers can use the free Wi-Fi at the same time.”
He also thanked the prime minister’s ICT adviser for the initiative.
Officials said the Wi-Fi network covers nearly 94,000 square metres of the airport area. It includes Terminal 1, Terminal 2, Domestic Terminal, VIP Terminal, VVIP Terminal and the car parking area.
They said the system has been built with modern infrastructure, including 250 access points, 48 kilometres of optical fibre and ethernet cables, and 37 access switches.
Each access point can serve up to 150 users, enabling around 37,500 users to connect at the same time.
The system operates with a total bandwidth capacity of 40 Gbps, ensuring fast and stable internet across the airport.
Trial operations began on 26 April 2026. Since then, around 20,000 passengers have used the service, consuming nearly 2.3 terabytes of data.
Officials said the initiative has significantly improved digital access for both domestic and international passengers passing through Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, making information access, communication and online activities faster and easier.
