Professor AKM Matinur Rahman has been appointed as the 15th Vice-Chancellor of Islamic University (IU), Kushtia.
The appointment was confirmed on Thursday through a notification issued by the Secondary and Higher Education Division of the Ministry of Education, with approval from the President, who also serves as the Chancellor of the university. He has been appointed for a four-year term.
According to the notification, the vice-chancellor will serve for four years from the date of joining.
During this period, he will receive remuneration and benefits equivalent to his current position, along with other facilities as per government rules.
As the chief executive of the university, he is required to reside on campus full-time. The President and Chancellor may cancel the appointment at any time if necessary.
Matinur Rahman is a professor in the Department of Public Administration at Islamic University.
He is also the convener of the BNP-aligned teachers’ organisation “White Panel” at the university and a member of the executive committee of the University Teachers’ Association of Bangladesh (UTAB).
He has held several key administrative positions at the university, including Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, President of the Teachers’ Association, Proctor, and Provost of Saddam Hossain Hall.
In academia, he has published 34 research papers in national and international journals and has participated in academic conferences in Nepal, India, Sri Lanka, China, Sweden, Malaysia and South Korea. Before joining Islamic University, he taught at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST).
He is also known for his involvement in public discourse, frequently participating in television talk shows and discussions on political and social issues.
