Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology (DUET) organised a workshop on 11 May 2026 titled “AI Tools and Result Preparation with Course Outcome-Program Outcome Mapping for Capacity Building in Academia”. The event, held at DUET’s Gazipur campus, aimed at enhancing academic processes through AI tools for accreditation. The workshop was organised by the university’s Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC).
The Honourable Vice Chancellor, Prof Mohammad Zainal Abedin, attended as the Chief Guest, emphasising the importance of AI in the accreditation process. In his speech, he said in a press release, “The signing of the Washington Accord has made it easier for Bangladesh’s engineering degrees to gain international recognition, and this has opened up greater opportunities for Bangladeshi engineers in the countries that are signatories to the Accord.
The use of AI tools in the accreditation process is indispensable to leverage these opportunities in the global village.” He added that DUET is in the process of applying for accreditation for its departments with specific plans, and he is hopeful the recognition will be received soon.
Prof Zainal Abedin further mentioned how AI and machine learning have simplified the implementation of Course Outcome-Program Outcome (CO-PO) mapping in the academic environment. He expressed that the knowledge gained from the workshop will be applied in DUET’s departments, fostering collaboration with universities, research institutions, and industries both at home and abroad. This, he said, would contribute to turning DUET into a leading global institution by enhancing education, research, publications, innovation, rankings, and employment opportunities.
In his opening speech, Prof Mohammad Obaidur Rahman, Director of IQAC, explained that outcome-based education (OBE) has replaced the previous academic result-oriented approach. He stressed that specific criteria for the global acceptance of engineering degrees are now being followed, and the implementation of CO-PO mapping is vital to achieving these criteria.
The event, which began with the welcoming speech by Additional Director Professor Dr. Shafiqul Islam, was attended by deans, department heads, undergraduate course coordinators, and program self-assessment committee members from the university’s degree-granting departments.
