At least 33 civilians were killed and 36 others injured when a Myanmar regime air strike hit a market and nearby areas in Kyauktaw town, Rakhine State, at noon on Monday.
The town is under the control of the Arakan Army (AA).
According to Wai Hin Aung, a prominent ethnic Rakhine writer and aid worker, a military fighter jet twice bombed Kyauktaw’s Kissapanadi (Kaladan) Bridge and surrounding areas, as well as the town’s Indian market, reports The Irrawaddy.
Work is still ongoing to identify those who were killed.
In a separate strike on Monday afternoon, the AA reported that a regime fighter jet bombed Ngapali Beach in Thandwe. Wai Hin Aung confirmed that no casualties occurred in that attack.
The AA captured control of most of Rakhine State, including both Kyauktaw and Thandwe, in 2024. The military regime frequently carries out aerial bombardments against AA-controlled territory across the state.
