BRAC Bank has provided sewing machines to 78 individuals with hearing and speech impairments, including 44 women, to support their independence and income generation.
The beneficiaries completed six months of tailoring and business training under the ‘Aporajeyo Ami’ programme, conducted in partnership with the Bangladesh National Federation of the Deaf (BNFD), reads a press release.
BRAC Bank and BNFD last Thursday jointly distributed sewing machines and certificates, enabling the graduates to start home-based businesses or seek employment.
The trainees also organised an exhibition to showcase their work. So far, 20 participants have secured jobs, reflecting the programme’s positive impact.
The Ministry of Social Welfare, along with the programme team, developed a tailored sewing curriculum. BRAC Bank and BNFD are monitoring the participants and supporting their progress.
Tareq Refat Ullah Khan, managing director and CEO of BRAC Bank, said, “True inclusion means empowering those most excluded. Through this initiative, we aim to equip individuals with skills and confidence for sustainable livelihoods.”
Md Mosharraf Hossain, administrator at BNFD, said, “Structured training is key to self-reliance. This partnership has strengthened our capacity to create meaningful opportunities for people with disabilities.”
Through the ‘Aporajeyo Ami’ programme, BRAC Bank reaffirmed its commitment to inclusive growth and the empowerment of people with disabilities.
