The “Expansion and Modernisation of the Central Drug Addiction Treatment Centre” project has achieved 65 percent physical progress and 43.76 percent financial completion, officials said.
The update was presented at a recent Project Implementation Committee (PIC) meeting held at the Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) headquarters. DNC Director General Md Hasan Maruf chaired the meeting.
According to the Project Director, the total estimated cost of the project is over Tk162 crore, of which more than Tk70.57 crore has already been spent. The Revised Annual Development Programme (RADP) allocation for the current fiscal year stands at Tk38 crore.
Additional Director General (Joint Secretary) Mohammad Golam Azam told BSS that significant progress has been made in the construction of the 13-storey Central Drug Addiction Treatment Centre.
Deputy Director (Operations) Mukul Jyoti Chakma said the facility will be upgraded from a 100-bed unit to a 250-bed modern treatment centre of international standard at Tejgaon Industrial Area in Dhaka once completed. He said the expanded centre will offer advanced treatment for drug addiction and improve patient management compared to the existing capacity.
Officials said roof casting, brickwork and plastering of the top floor have been completed, while exterior finishing work is ongoing.
The administrative building is nearing completion. Bathroom tiling is finished. Floor tiling is 90 percent complete and door frame installation is 80 percent complete. Overall construction progress of the building stands at around 85 percent.
Work on the extension of the drug rehabilitation centre has also progressed. Roof casting and plastering of the sixth floor have been completed.
Renovation of the existing five-storey building has not yet started. It depends on relocation of the treatment centre and metro office, which is 37 percent completed.
All civil work packages under the project have already been awarded. Materials for HVAC and ventilation systems have reached the site. The procurement process for lifts has been completed, and installation will begin after delivery.
Officials said efforts are underway to complete finishing works of the administrative building quickly to support relocation and begin the next phase of renovation.
Coordination with the Department of Architecture is ongoing to ensure quality standards.
The project time extension has already been approved. Authorities are now waiting for an administrative order from the Ministry of Home Affairs to release funds and clear pending contractor payments.
The meeting stressed timely completion of the project, approval of the Revised Development Project Proposal (RDPP), and stronger coordination among concerned agencies to ensure smooth implementation of remaining works.
