US President Donald Trump has said that American forces deployed near Iran will remain in place until a “real agreement” is reached, as Washington enters a fragile two‑week ceasefire with Tehran.
The truce, reached Tuesday, already showed signs of strain, with Israel striking Lebanon and Washington rejecting parts of Iran’s demands ahead of planned talks.
On late Wednesday, Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform, “All U.S. Ships, Aircraft, and Military Personnel, with additional Ammunition, Weaponry, and anything else that is appropriate and necessary for the lethal prosecution and destruction of an already substantially degraded Enemy, will remain in place in, and around, Iran, until such time as the REAL AGREEMENT reached is fully complied with.”
While calling a collapse “highly unlikely,” Trump warned of “bigger, and better, and stronger” strikes if no deal is reached.
“In the meantime our great Military is Loading Up and Resting, looking forward, actually, to its next Conquest. AMERICA IS BACK!” he added.
Iran agreed to reopen the vital Strait of Hormuz during the two‑week truce but insisted it would maintain “dominion” over the waterway. The strait is a key chokepoint through which one‑fifth of the world’s oil passes.
In a Farsi‑language list of demands circulated by state media, Iran also insisted Washington accept its uranium enrichment programme. That condition was absent from demands submitted via the UN, and Trump has said enrichment would be “taken care of” in any deal.
Ahead of talks in Pakistan, Trump declared Iran will have “no nuclear weapons” and the “Strait of Hormuz WILL BE OPEN & SAFE.”
