Singer and presenter Dithi Anwar has paid tribute to her father, legendary lyricist and composer Gazi Mazharul Anwar, on the fourth anniversary of his death by releasing one of his songs.
According to a press release, September 4 marked the fourth death anniversary of Gazi Mazharul Anwar, one of the subcontinent’s prominent lyricists and composers. To mark the occasion, Dithi released Ghorir Kata, a song written by her father, on her YouTube channel on September 4. Apu Aman composed and arranged the track.
Apu Aman said Ghorir Kata is one of the finest among Gazi Mazharul Anwar’s unreleased songs.
Dithi said her father wrote the song for her as part of Dithir Khata. She recorded her vocals while he was still alive.
“I had recorded my voice for this song while Abbu was still alive. The video was made a few days ago. The song is very close to my heart. It is a song that touches the heart,” Dithi said.
She also praised her father’s songwriting style.
“Abbu had a way of drawing people in with simple language, beautiful word choices and wonderful messages conveyed through ordinary words. That is why his songs could easily connect with people and reach everyone. This song is just like that. I hope everyone will like it,” she said.
Dithi also praised Apu Aman’s work on the track.
“Apu composes beautifully, and his arrangements are also captivating. Among the artists of our generation, Apu is one of the most talented. I believe we should give him more opportunities to work in our industry,” she said.
Apu Aman spoke emotionally about his relationship with Gazi Mazharul Anwar.
“To me, Gazi Mazharul Anwar was a wonder. If Gazi Uncle had not embraced me like his own child, much of the emotion and feeling that define Bengali songs might have remained unfulfilled in my life. I will remain indebted to him forever. I believe he is in a place of great peace wherever he is. May the Almighty keep him in peace,” Apu said.
Dithi Anwar’s YouTube channel has previously featured her father’s songs Jonmer Pore, Robi Thakur, Meghla Akash and Madhur Canteen.
Meanwhile, legendary singer Sabina Yasmin also remembered Gazi Mazharul Anwar on social media.
“Gazi Bhai left us too soon, making us cry. May Allah grant you Jannah. May you remain in peace in the hereafter,” she wrote.
