The United States and Israel have launched a joint attack targeting a prominent university in Tehran, with rescue workers fearing heavy casualties following the overnight bombardment.
Iran’s capital came under heavy bombing in eastern, southern, and western areas, with the most significant strike hitting the Sharif University of Technology, according to Al Jazeera.
The university campus was directly bombed, causing unprecedented damage to its main building and surrounding areas, the report said.
Iranian state media Fars News also reported that a gas facility near the university was attacked.
This marks the fourth university to be targeted in US-Israeli attacks on Iran.
Analysts say the United States and Israel are seeking to send a clear message to Iranian authorities through the expanded attacks, attempting to prove the seriousness of their ultimatum to open the Strait of Hormuz.
US and Israeli forces are targeting not only educational institutions but also hospitals, schools, energy infrastructure, and key bridges, according to reports.
Continuous airstrikes are also ongoing in other Iranian cities outside Tehran, including Karaj, Shiraz, Isfahan, and Bushehr.
Casualty reports have emerged from multiple locations. Six people were killed in overnight attacks in the city of Bandar-e-Lengeh, while five died in the city of Qom. At least 15 people, including six children, were killed in the small southern town of Baharestan near Tehran.
