Monirul Huq Chowdhury, BNP lawmaker for the Cumilla-6 constituency, has alleged in the Jatiya Sangsad that the Cumilla South Mini Stadium exists only on paper while having no physical trace in reality.

Raising serious allegations of land record fraud, looting of funds, and the theft of official files, the MP sought the direct intervention of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to “rescue” the stadium.

He made the allegations on Sunday during a discussion in Parliament. The session was presided over by Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed.

Monirul informed the House that following the creation of the Cumilla Sadar Dakshin Upazila in 2004, an initiative was taken to establish a mini stadium. He noted that while administrative naming and fund allocations were confirmed after long-standing efforts, the facility is currently non-existent.

“I have tried my best but could not find any stadium by this name in Cumilla district, yet government records insist it is there,” he stated.

The MP expressed deep resentment over the “intentional negligence” in recording the land purchased for the stadium. He further alleged that sports equipment had been embezzled and a large amount of allocated money had been looted.

Most notably, he claimed that the original file containing the records of the land and property purchased for the Cumilla South Upazila stadium has “vanished” from the department.

Reflecting on his long-standing involvement in the sports arena, an emotional Monirul told Parliament that the issue has become a matter of his personal honour. He stated that as a local representative and sports enthusiast, he is unable to remain accountable to the people.

Addressing the prime minister, who was present in the House, Chowdhury asked, “Where is this stadium?” and urged the head of government to take the necessary steps to locate and recover the “vanished” facility.
