A local Chhatra Dal leader has been expelled from all party positions within an hour of posting on Facebook in support of the July Charter and the referendum results which support the Charter’s implementation, according to party sources.
Rakibul Hasan, organising secretary of Aditmari Upazila Chhatra Dal and an active participant in the July movement, was removed from primary membership and all other party posts on Monday afternoon, a press release signed by Jatiya Chhatra Dal Senior Vice-President Amrul Hasan Molla said.
The order was issued with the approval of District Chhatra Dal President Syed Sadiqul Islam Pavel and General Secretary Md Jahangir Khan. Party leaders and activists have also been instructed to avoid any contact with him.
At around 1pm on Monday, a post titled “Implement the referendum verdict without procrastination” was made from a Facebook ID named “MD Rakibull Hasan.” Within about an hour, the expulsion order was issued.
Hasan had been involved in Chhatra Dal politics for some time and played an active role on the front lines in the district town and Aditmari during the July movement. He was also reportedly attacked by Chhatra League and Jubo League activists while participating in a BNP movement in 2022.
Reacting to his expulsion, Rakibul Hasan said, “I have had an interest in BNP politics since my school days. The party’s stance against injustice and oppression attracted me. I have been associated with Chhatra Dal since class 10. During the July movement, I stood by the people against the Awami autocracy.”
“I want justice for these incidents and a referendum to be implemented for the people of the country. I have been expelled just for this one post,” he added.
