‘Domm’ has intensified pre-release buzz by releasing its trailer. However, the film’s rollout strategy has taken an unexpected turn. The producers have decided against an immediate single-screen release, citing concerns over piracy, and will instead debut the film exclusively in multiplexes during Eid.
The decision was disclosed at a press briefing in Dhaka on Tuesday, shortly after the trailer unveiling, where producer Shahriar Shakil explained the rationale behind the move. Reflecting on the film’s extended production period, he described it as a family-centred project that aims to offer audiences something distinct.
However, the producer pointed to past experiences, particularly the early piracy of their previous film ‘Taandob’, as a key factor behind the cautious release plan.
Given the scale of investment in Domm, the team has chosen to delay its single-screen run by a few weeks to minimise financial risk.
The event was attended by cast members including Afran Nisho and Puja Chery, alongside director Redoan Rony and other collaborators.
Speaking at the launch, Nisho described the project as particularly personal, noting the emotional weight he carries when discussing it. He emphasised the effort invested in shaping a compelling narrative and hinted that the role marks a departure from his previous work, aligning with his interest in more story-driven cinema.
Chery, who stars opposite Nisho, expressed confidence in the film’s impact, highlighting the supportive dynamic on set and the collaborative environment that helped elevate performances.
Director Rony, meanwhile, suggested that the film’s core strength lies in its thematic depth. Inspired by a personal experience during Eid, the story explores resilience and inner strength. He also voiced optimism about the film’s prospects beyond the domestic market.
Domm is a joint production involving SVF, Chorki and Alpha-i. The ensemble cast includes Abul Hayat, Dolly Zahur and Zahid Hasan.
The screenplay has been developed by a team comprising Rony, Rabiyul Alam Robi, Syed Ahmed Shawki, Al-Amin Hasan Nirjhor and Md Saifullah Riyad.
