Labour and Employment Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury underscored the importance of constructive guidance and collaboration from the International Labour Organization.
He said such cooperation is vital to promote safe workplaces, uphold occupational health and safety, implement international labour standards and foster sustainable employment in Bangladesh.
He made the remarks during a courtesy meeting with International Labour Organization Country Director for Bangladesh Max Tunon at the Ministry of Labour and Employment at Bangladesh Secretariat.
The minister said a draft Bangladesh Labour Amendment Act 2026 prepared in line with the Bangladesh Labour Ordinance 2025 has been submitted for cabinet approval and will be placed before parliament once approved.
International Labour Organization Country Director for Bangladesh Max Tunon said the organisation has reviewed the government’s 180-day action plan and is interested in working jointly with the government to implement the programme.
He also stressed the importance of consultations with relevant stakeholders when implementing the law, particularly in areas where significant changes have been introduced.
Labour and Employment Secretary Md Abdur Rahman Tarafdar, senior officials of the ministry and representatives of the International Labour Organization Bangladesh office attended the meeting.
