Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) and Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) have signed an agreement to construct a 4.15km access road on an existing embankment at Moheshkhali Economic Zone-3 in Dhalghata to support infrastructure development in the zone.
The road will be built on a BWDB embankment as delegated work under a broader infrastructure development project for the economic zone, BEZA said in a press release Tuesday.
The memorandum of understanding was signed at the BEZA office in Dhaka.
Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority Executive Board Secretary and Joint Secretary Julia Moin signed the agreement for BEZA, while Bangladesh Water Development Board Cox’s Bazar Water Development Division Executive Engineer Nurul Islam signed for BWDB.
The road will support the installation of gas, electricity and communication infrastructure in the economic zone.
Under the plan, the road will be constructed on the existing BWDB embankment through delegated work implemented by the Roads and Highways Department.
The wider project is estimated to cost about Tk1,195 crore.
It includes construction of an administrative building, internal roads, a sewerage network, water supply system, gas connections, an indoor substation and other supporting infrastructure.
The project also includes building an effluent treatment plant and boundary walls.
Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority has allocated 570 acres of land in Moheshkhali Economic Zone-3 to three investors — SPL Petrochemical Complex Ltd, Samuda Chemical Complex Ltd and Pacific Gas Bangladesh Ltd.
Another 470 acres have been reserved for utilities including gas, water and electricity along with greenery and service areas.
Among the investors, SPL Petrochemical Complex Ltd has begun land development and jetty construction on its allocated plot as part of preparations for an industrial facility.
Other companies are expected to start establishing plants after infrastructure development is completed.
Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority Executive Member Major General Retd Nazrul Islam said work has started to develop Moheshkhali Economic Zone-3 into a modern industrial zone.
He said the zone is expected to complement the growing power hub around Matarbari in Moheshkhali.
