Charli XCX has revealed she is considering shifting her creative focus from music to acting as she becomes increasingly involved in film projects.
The 33 year old pop star shared the idea during a recent episode of the ‘Feeding Starving Celebrities’ series hosted by Quenlin Blackwell. When asked whether she would like to act more, Charli responded enthusiastically.
“Yes, are you kidding? I want to quit music, babe, and act,” she said.
Blackwell pointed out the continued success of the singer’s 2024 album ‘Brat’, to which the Grammy winner jokingly replied, “What else is there to do?”
Charli has recently become more involved in film projects. In January she released ‘The Moment’, a mockumentary that features cameo appearances from figures including Kylie Jenner and Julia Fox.
The singer also discussed an idea she previously shared on TikTok for a horror film concept that she described as an “it girl Final Destination”. She suggested that characters could meet dramatic fates involving machinery, with several deaths taking place on fashion runways. Charli joked that her own character would probably die at a rave.
Her growing interest in cinema also includes music work tied to film projects. She created an album inspired by a new adaptation of ‘Wuthering Heights’ directed by Emerald Fennell and starring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi.
In addition, Charli is set to collaborate with Jack Antonoff on original songs for the psychological horror film ‘Mother Mary’, which will star Anne Hathaway and Michaela Coel.
Writing on her Substack in November, the singer said film was becoming an increasingly important creative outlet.
“Film is where my creative brain seems to be gravitating,” she wrote. “I’m enjoying acting, writing and discovering a new craft.”
However, she also acknowledged that music will likely always remain part of her life.
“Music is a limb I will probably never fully be able to cut from my body despite trying quite hard to do so at points,” she added.
