A man in Shahrasti upazila of Chandpur has been accused of raping his daughter. Following disclosure of the incident, angry locals locked the suspect’s residence.
Shahrasti Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mir Mahbubur Rahman said, “I sent a police team to the victim’s house after being informed by locals. Since the house was locked, they checked the maternal grandfather’s home, but neither the victim nor any family members were found.” He added that efforts to arrest the accused are ongoing, though no formal complaint has yet been filed.
According to locals, the 37-year-old resident of Tamta North Union had allegedly been abusing his daughter for a long time. Suspicious of her husband, the victim’s mother took the girl to a local hospital, where medical tests confirmed she was nearly four months pregnant.
The mother reportedly moved her daughter to her maternal grandfather’s house seven days ago to seek an abortion.
Union Parishad member Mosharraf Hossain, Ward BNP Secretary Khorshed Alam, and Ward Jubo Dal President Sakhawat Hossain confirmed the matter and urged the family to pursue legal action.
Protesters later locked the suspect’s home and demanded his immediate arrest and punishment.
