An inspector of the Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) was injured in a shooting during an anti-drug raid in Dhaka’s Sayedabad area on Monday.
The officer, Siddiqur Rahman, 40, was rushed to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) after being shot in the left leg.
Doctors confirmed that the bullet passed through his leg, and his condition is stable.
The incident took place around 12pm behind the Sayedabad bus terminal.
Raziur Rahman, deputy director of DNC’s Dhaka Metro South division, said a team had gone to the Sayedabad rail crossing for an anti-narcotics operation.
Upon spotting three men walking along the railway tracks, the officers challenged them.
According to officials, the suspects pulled out firearms and fired four rounds at the team. One bullet hit Inspector Siddiqur Rahman below the knee before exiting. He collapsed but was quickly assisted by colleagues and transported to the hospital.
Authorities identified a suspected drug dealer named Masum as the person who opened fire. No information has been released yet on arrests in connection with the attack.
