Jubo Dal worker shot dead in Raozan

Miscreants have shot and killed a person in public in Raozan Upazila, Chittagong.

The incident occurred around 7:30 PM on Wednesday at the Alimiahat Bazar in the Purba Gujra Union of the upazila. The location is about 500 meters away from the Purba Gujra Police Investigation Center.

The deceased, Muhammad Abdul Mojid (50), was the son of Abdul Monaf from the Alimiahat Bazar area.

Since the fall of the Awami League government on August 5, 2024, successive killings have been occurring in Raozan, most of which are political in nature.

Local Juba Dal leaders and activists said the deceased, Abdul Mojid, was a worker of the Purba Gujra Union Juba Dal. In local politics, he was known as a follower of Raozan’s Member of Parliament, Gias Uddin Qader Chowdhury.

Quoting eyewitnesses, police said miscreants arrived on a motorcycle, fired shots targeting him at the market, and fled quickly. He was rescued in a bullet-wound condition and taken to Raozan Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared him dead.

Assistant Superintendent of Police for Rangunia Circle, Mohammad Belayet Hossain, confirmed the incident.

He stated that Abdul Mojid was a worker of Raozan Thana Juba Dal. Unidentified miscreants shot him in the evening.

“Evidence has been collected from the scene. Efforts are underway to identify and arrest those involved.”

Dr. Tiplu Kanti De of the emergency department at the Upazila Health Complex said he had died before being brought to the hospital. The deceased’s body had three bullet wounds. Initially, it appears death was caused by excessive bleeding, but details will be known after the autopsy.

Tension is prevailing in the area following the incident. Police have intensified patrols to maintain control. Police stated that an investigation is ongoing into the cause of the killing and those involved.
