Paras Dogra, the Jammu and Kashmir captain, is likely to be fined half of his match fee after a clash with Karnataka substitute fielder KV Aneesh during the Ranji Trophy final in Hubballi on Tuesday.
The moment came on day two in the 101st over. Dogra pushed at a short ball from Prasidh Krishna. The ball ran to the boundary at backward point. Aneesh, fielding close in, said a few words. Dogra then walked up to him and made contact with his head.
Karnataka captain Mayank Agarwal stepped in to support his teammate. The two senior players exchanged sharp words. The umpires quickly spoke to both sides and calmed things down. At the end of the over, Dogra said sorry to Aneesh.
After play, Dogra played down the issue. He said it was not a big matter and happened in the heat of the moment. He added that such exchanges are common in a final and the situation was settled on the spot.
Kanhaiya Wadhwan, who stood at the non striker’s end, also said the matter was minor. He said sledging came from both teams and nothing was done on purpose. He added that it was sorted out soon.
