Commercial Bank of Ceylon PLC Bangladesh Operations has inaugurated a new, high-capacity Corporate Banking Department at its head office in Gulshan 2, underscoring its long-term commitment to the country’s financial sector, said in a press release.
The tech-enabled facility, designed to improve operational efficiency and deliver more sophisticated financial solutions, is aimed at supporting the evolving needs of the bank’s corporate clients and enhancing its position in corporate banking excellence.
The opening was marked by a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by Chief Executive Officer Najith Meewanage of Commercial Bank of Ceylon PLC Bangladesh Operations, who was joined by Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operating Officer Haily Algewatte, Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Head of Corporate Banking Mahmud Hossain, Chief Risk and Investment Strategy Officer Samantha Ratnayaka and Senior Assistant General Manager – Corporate Banking Fatema Zohora, along with members of the bank’s management committee and department heads.
The new corporate banking floor at the head office, located on Kemal Ataturk Avenue in the Gulshan 2 area of Dhaka, reflects the bank’s strategy of investing in infrastructure that can accommodate future growth and complexity in business banking services.
Commercial Bank of Ceylon PLC began operating in Bangladesh in 2003 and has since expanded its network and service offerings in corporate, SME, retail and international banking segments. The bank has been recognised for its performance and leadership in the Bangladesh market, holding a top credit rating and winning multiple awards within the regional banking industry.
Najith Meewanage, a seasoned banker with decades of experience in the industry, has led the bank’s Bangladesh operations as CEO since his appointment following his tenure as chief operating officer.
Haily Algewatte, who serves as deputy CEO and COO, and Mahmud Hossain, who heads corporate banking, are part of a management team responsible for driving strategic initiatives and strengthening the bank’s market presence. Samantha Ratnayaka oversees risk and investment strategy, while Fatema Zohora leads corporate banking efforts as senior AGM.
The new facility is expected to improve client engagement and support complex transaction processing, aligning with broader trends in Bangladesh’s financial services sector, where banks are investing in advanced infrastructure to meet surging demand from corporate clients.
Commercial Bank of Ceylon PLC’s Bangladesh operations operate under a network that includes branches, offshore banking units and SME centres across the country, reinforcing its role as a significant foreign bank in Bangladesh’s financial landscape.
The launch of the Corporate Banking Department at the head office is part of the bank’s ongoing efforts to enhance service quality and respond to the growing sophistication of corporate finance needs, at a time when Bangladesh’s economy continues to expand and corporate activities become more complex.
The bank’s leadership said the new floor will provide a more conducive environment for relationship management, structured financing and tailored banking services for domestic and international corporate clients.
The investment is also intended to support the bank’s objective of maintaining high standards of operational excellence and reinforcing confidence among its corporate partners in Bangladesh’s competitive banking market.
