Two motorcycle riders were killed after a covered van struck their motorcycle in front of Xinjian Restaurant in the capital’s airport area.
The deceased were identified as Arifur Rahman, 40, a scrap metal trader from Postogola, and Falu, 55, an employee at a neighbouring shop.
Airport Police Station Sub-Inspector Manik Mahmud confirmed the incident.
The incident took place around 10am on Thursday.
Falu died on the spot, while Arifur was declared dead after being taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
Local tea vendor Abul Hasan, who helped take Arifur to the hospital, said a covered van and a private car first collided head-on in front of the restaurant.
The motorcycle then crashed into the van, killing Falu on the spot and critically injuring Arifur.
SI Manik said the covered van driver also sustained minor injuries. Police seized both the covered van and the motorcycle.
