Bangladeshi cinema has earned international recognition at the Asian Film Festival Barcelona in Spain, with Mejbaur Rahman Sumon’s ‘Roid’ winning Best Film in the main competition and Mohammad Touqir Islam’s ‘Delupi’ receiving a Special Mention in the Other Narrative Section.

The festival ran from 22 October to 2 November, with the winners announced on the closing day. Both directors expressed excitement over the recognition and thanked the organisers.

The awards add to the growing international presence of both films, which have previously participated in international festivals and received accolades.

Blending mythology with traditional rural Bengali tales, ‘Roid’ has drawn attention for its mysterious narrative and distinctive filmmaking. The film also received a positive response in local theatres. It stars Mostafizur Noor Imran and Nazifa Tushi in the lead roles.

Meanwhile, ‘Delupi’ is set in Deluti Union in Khulna and explores political realities through the story of a flood in the area. The film features Chiranjit Biswas, Aditi Roy, Rudra Roy and Zakir Hossain, among others.
