Sheikh Emdadul Karim, 45, younger brother of Jamaat-e-Islami candidate for Jhalokathi-2 (Sadar–Nalchity) Sheikh Neamul Karim, passed away on Thursday while undergoing treatment at Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital.
The news was confirmed by Advocate Al Amin, acting Ameer of Nalchity upazila Jamaat.
Emdadul Karim, a resident of Anurag area in Nalchity upazila, and son of SM Abdul Quader, had cast his vote at the Anurag polling centre on Thursday morning.
On his way home, he suddenly fell ill while in the car. He was rushed to the hospital, where the duty doctor declared him dead at 12pm.
Family members said Karim had been suffering from multiple health complications for a long time.
His condition was already fragile prior to going to vote.
Meanwhile, the news of his death has cast a shadow of mourning over Nalchity and the surrounding areas.
