Supporters of the BNP-led alliance candidate, Junaid Al Habib, and independent candidate, Rumeen Farhana, clashed on Thursday morning in the Brahmanbaria-2 constituency.
The confrontation occurred in front of the Alinagar Government Primary School polling centre in the upazila’s Sadar union.
The incident sparked widespread panic at the polling centre and in the surrounding areas. Law enforcement agencies, including the police, intervened immediately to bring the situation under control.
Monjur Kader Bhuiyan, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sarail Police Station, confirmed that a fight broke out between supporters of the two candidates outside the voting premises during the morning.
For security reasons, the presiding officer suspended voting for 10 minutes at the height of the tension.
Polling resumed once the situation was normalised through the efforts of the security forces. No casualties were reported following the incident.
