Thomas Tuchel will stay as England manager until Euro 2028 after signing a new two year deal.
The 52 year old took charge in January 2025 on an 18 month contract. He will now lead the team through the 2028 European Championship.
Tuchel said he is proud to continue in the role.
“I am very happy and proud to extend my time with England. It is no secret to anyone that I have loved every minute so far of working with my players and coaches, and I cannot wait to lead them to the World Cup.”
The Football Association said Tuchel guided England to record qualification for this summer’s tournament. The team did not concede a goal and scored 20 in the process.
England faced Albania, Serbia, Latvia and Andorra in the group. The level of opposition was not strong. Away to Andorra, who are ranked 172 in the world, England won only 1-0.
Last summer, England also lost 3-1 at home to Senegal in a friendly.
Tuchel’s coaching staff will also remain in place. The FA said the new deal gives clarity and allows full focus on the pitch ahead of the World Cup.
The extension means Tuchel will lead England in the build up to Euro 2028. The tournament will be co hosted by England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland. Tuchel said a major event at home will be very special.
FA chief executive Mark Bullingham praised the manager.
“There is no better candidate in world football than Thomas. With his big game experience, knowledge and passion, he gives the squad the very best chance for success this summer and with the once in a generation Euro being hosted on these shores in two years’ time.”
