Election Commission Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed on Thursday said 47.91 percent of registered voters had cast their ballots by 2pm at 36,031 of the 42,651 polling centres nationwide.
Turnout data from 6,620 centres was still pending, he told reporters at the EC secretariat in the afternoon.
Responding to Jamaat’s claim that voting was suspended in nearly a hundred centres across three constituencies, EC Secretary Ahmed said balloting could be halted if such allegations were proven.
He added that no major problems had been reported in the overall election situation.
During visits to two polling centres earlier in the day, officials informed him that voter flow was slow until noon. “When we were returning, we noticed that the flow was increasing,” he said.
