An on-duty army officer has dismissed allegations of polling agent obstruction made by Nasiruddin Patwary, the 11-party alliance candidate for the Dhaka-8 constituency, as “false”
Following an investigation, the officer stated on Thursday that no evidence was found to support the claims.
Earlier that morning, Patwary alleged that his agents were blocked from entering the Mirza Abbas Mohila College centre in Shahjahanpur.
Speaking to journalists at 11:30am, Patwary stated that while voting appeared fair at many centres, his agent at this particular centre was delayed by one hour and then barred from working for a further three hours.
He raised concerns about the activities inside the centre during that time and demanded the release of CCTV footage.
In response, the army officer, who wished to remain anonymous, said he had consulted both the presiding officer and agents representing the ‘Shapla Koli’ symbol.
According to the officer, both the agents and the presiding officer confirmed that there were no issues with entering the polling centre and that the agents had been present since 7:30am.
The officer further explained that when the agents arrived, they were asked to provide identification for verification. Once their identities were confirmed, they were allowed to enter the centre before polling began.
