Voting for the 13th parliamentary election has been progressing in a festive atmosphere across six constituencies of Dinajpur on Thursday morning.
It began at 7:30am and is scheduled to continue without any break until 4:30pm, with a significant presence of voters observed from the early hours.
A total of 40 candidates are contesting the six constituencies in this national election, which is being held under stringent security arrangements in the district.
To ensure a fair and transparent process, CCTV cameras have been installed at every polling station, while police and Ansar members are maintaining order inside the centres.
Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Bangladesh Army, Border Guard Bangladesh, and Bangladesh Air Force have been deployed outside the polling centres.
According to records, there are 844 polling centres in the district. The total number of voters stands at 2,660,734, including 1,329,457 men, 1,331,255 women, and 22 third-gender voters.
Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer Md Rafiqul Islam said voting began in a peaceful environment. He noted that a high level of enthusiasm was visible among the queues of people, observing that voters expressed great joy at being able to comfortably exercise their right to vote after 17 years.
