A 55-year-old man died after falling ill while standing in line to vote at a polling centre in Chattogram on Thursday morning.
The deceased, Monu Mia, was a resident of Batterygali in Bagmoniram, part of Chattogram-14 constituency. The incident occurred at 7:55am at Kazi Deuri Boys’ High School polling centre.
Presiding Officer Faruk Ahmed and Monu Mia’s elder son, Shakil, confirmed his death.
According to eyewitnesses, Monu Mia arrived at the centre to cast his vote in the morning.
While waiting in line, he suddenly collapsed. Family members rushed him to National Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
