Bangladesh Bus-Truck Owners’ Association has announced that Long-haul buses will remain operational across the country on Wednesday (11 February).
Ramesh Chandra Ghosh, president of the association, confirmed the decision on Sunday, noting that ticket demand for that date remains low. In contrast, there has been “huge pressure” for tickets on 10 February.
“Regarding election day on 12 February, most services are likely to be suspended as the majority of transport workers have requested leave to cast their votes. Although there is no official ban on bus operations, services are expected to resume only after the polls close on Thursday night.”
The Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges has issued a notification outlining transport restrictions in accordance with Election Commission directives. Under Section 32 of the Road Transport Act 2018, the following restrictions will apply – Taxis, pickups, microbuses, and trucks are prohibited for 24 hours, from midnight on 11 February to midnight on 12 February. And motorcycles are prohibited for 72 hours, from midnight on 10 February to midnight on 13 February.
The notification clarified that these restrictions will be relaxed for emergency services, election-related duties, and long-haul or local passenger vehicles.
