With campaigning in full swing ahead of the 13th parliamentary election and referendum, candidates’ agents and supporters are going door to door, making a range of promises in a bid to win voter support.
British citizen Flavia has been actively campaigning for her mother-in-law in the Thakurgaon-2 constituency, which covers Baliadangi and Haripur upazilas and parts of Ranishankail upazila.
Flavia, who is originally from Italy, is the daughter-in-law of Jatiya Party candidate Nurun Nahar Begum. Her participation in the campaign has sparked curiosity among local voters.
Raisul Islam, a resident of Sangaon village in Baliadangi, said, “Flavia is asking for votes for the ‘plough’ symbol and chanting slogans. I came just to see that.”
Flavia said, “My mother-in-law is very sincere. She can easily mix with everyone. Please vote for her and ensure her victory. I felt good being part of the campaign on the ground.”
Her mother-in-law, Nurun Nahar Begum, said, “She (Flavia) has come to take part in the election campaign. I have contested elections before, and this time my son and daughter-in-law have joined me. I hope victory will be ours. The ‘plough’ symbol will win.”
