Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman is set to visit his birthplace, Sylhet, on 7 February to attend an election campaign rally, with the party’s district and city units stepping up preparations.
The rally will be held at the Sylhet Alia Madrasa ground at 3:30 pm, where Shafiqur Rahman is scheduled to speak as the chief guest, alongside central and local Jamaat leaders.
To finalise preparations, Jamaat-e-Islami held a preparatory meeting on Wednesday night at its metropolitan office at Kudrat Ullah Market in Bandarbazar.
The meeting was chaired by central working committee member and Sylhet City Ameer Muhammad Fakhrul Islam, while City Secretary Mohammad Shahjahan Ali moderated the session.
Among those who addressed the meeting were Central Majlis-e-Shura member and Sylhet District Ameer Maulana Habibur Rahman, who is also the Jamaat-nominated and 11-party alliance candidate for the Sylhet-1 constituency.
Others present included Sylhet-1 election management committee convener Hafiz Abdul Hai Harun, City Nayeb-e-Ameer Dr Nurul Islam Babul, and District Nayeb-e-Ameers Professor Abdul Hannan and Hafiz Anwar Hossain Khan.
District Assistant Secretary Md Nazrul Islam, City Assistant Secretaries Zahedur Rahman Chowdhury and Maulana Islam Uddin, former South Surma upazila chairman Maulana Lokman Ahmed, and leaders of Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir, including Sylhet City President Shahin Ahmed and Secretary Shahidul Islam Saju, also attended.
Party leaders issued directives to activists at all levels to ensure a large turnout at the rally and urged them to work actively on the ground to secure a ‘Yes’ vote in the referendum and victory for the 11-party alliance candidates.
