The court has rescheduled the submission date for the investigation report in the murder case of Inqilab Moncho convener, Sharif Osman Hadi, to 3 February.
This marks the fourth postponement of the investigation report submission.
On Thursday, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Awlad Hossain Mohammad Junaid of Dhaka set this date as the investigation officer, Assistant Police Superintendent of CID Police, Dhaka Metro (East), Abdur Kader Bhuiyan, could not submit the report. SI Ruknuzzaman of the Prosecution Department confirmed this information.
Previously, on 25 January, another Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate of Dhaka, Jashita Islam, had set today as the date for submitting the investigation report. In the Hadi murder case, DB Police submitted a charge sheet against 17 individuals on 6 January. However, Inqilab Moncho is not satisfied with the charge sheet.
The case was scheduled for hearing on 12 January. Abdullah Al Jaber requested two days on that day to review the charge sheet. The court granted this and set 15 January as the date for charge sheet acceptance. On that day, the complainant in the case, Inqilab Moncho’s Member Secretary Abdullah Al Jaber, expressed dissatisfaction and filed a protest petition against the charge sheet provided by DB Police.
Subsequently, the court ordered CID to investigate the case. Hadi, who gained recognition through the July uprising and the movement to ban the Awami League, had announced his candidacy as an independent candidate from the Dhaka-8 constituency in the 13th parliamentary elections.
On 12 December last year, while Hadi was on a moving rickshaw in the Bijoynagar area for public engagement, an assailant sitting on the back of a moving motorcycle shot him.
After being critically injured, Hadi was quickly taken to Dhaka Medical College (DMCH) Hospital for surgery, and later that night, he was admitted to Evercare Hospital in Dhaka. Two days later, Hadi was airlifted to Singapore via air ambulance. He was undergoing treatment there until news of his death arrived on 18 December last year.
After Hadi was shot, Inqilab Moncho’s member secretary Abdullah Al Jaber filed an attempted murder case as the complainant on 14 December. Later, Section 302 (murder) was added to the case. Subsequently, after passing through the police station, the investigation responsibility for the case was assigned to DB Police.
After completing the investigation, the detective police submitted a charge sheet on 6 January in the Hadi murder case, naming 17 individuals as accused, including former ward councillor Taizul Islam Chowdhury Bappi, and former Chhatra League activist Faisal Karim Masud.
The accused named in the charge sheet are main accused Faisal Karim Masud alias Rahul alias Daud (37), his father Md Humayun Kabir (70), mother Hasi Begum (60), wife Shaheda Parvin Samia (24), brother-in-law Wahid Ahmed Shipu (27), girlfriend Maria Akter Lima (21), Md Kabir (33), Md. Taizul Islam Chowdhury Bappi, Philip Snal (32) accused of aiding escape to India, Mukti Mahmud (51), and Jesmin Akter (42). Among them, Faisal Karim and the last five individuals remain fugitives.
In the charge sheet, the investigating officer, DB Police Inspector Faisal Ahmed, stated that based on an analysis of the accused persons’ political identities and Hadi’s political statements at various times, it is preliminarily understood that Hadi was shot and killed due to “political vengeance”.
