The national team fitness training camp will start on February 1. The Bangladesh Cricket Board took the decision at a meeting of its cricket operations department on Wednesday. A board source said the camp may continue until February 9.
Bangladesh’s absence from the World Cup has left the players without matches. There is no competitive cricket at the moment for Liton Kumar Das and others. The board wants to keep the players active and help them recover from the disappointment of missing the World Cup. That is why the camp has been planned.
The camp will include players from the Test, ODI and T20 squads. Other cricketers linked to the national team will also be considered. The national selection panel is preparing the final list for the conditioning camp.
After the camp ends, players will get a short break to vote in the national parliamentary election. Once the election is over, competitive cricket is expected to return.
The Bangladesh Cricket League One Day tournament may begin on February 17 or 18. It will be a four team event. Three teams will be formed with national team players. The fourth team will include High Performance players.
The One Day league will run for 15 days. League matches will be played in Rajshahi and Bogura. The board wants to host the final in Mirpur. A policy decision on this was taken at the same meeting.
The board had earlier planned to include Under 23 players in the tournament. That plan changed after Bangladesh missed the World Cup. The cricket operations department has now moved ahead with plans to organise both the One Day and four day BCL tournaments.
