An international conference marking the millennium commemoration of the demise of world-renowned Muslim scholar Al-Biruni was held at the auditorium of the Institute of Modern Languages (IML), University of Dhaka on Wednesday.
Vice-Chancellor of the University of Dhaka, Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan, attended the event as the chief guest, according to a press release. The conference was organised by the Abu Raihan Biruni Foundation.
The programme was chaired by Dr Abu Musa Mohammad Arif Billah, chairman of the Abu Raihan Biruni Foundation.
Professor (Supernumerary) Dr AKM Waliul Islam of the Institute of Modern Languages and Sheikh Shah Muhammad Shamsuddin Gazi, assistant professor of Fareast International University, addressed the conference.
Dr Abu Musa Mohammad Arif Billah delivered the memorial lecture.
During the event, the book titled “Al-Biruni Millennium Demise Anniversary Commemoration World Congress Memorial-Book Volume 2” was formally unveiled.
Paying deep tribute to the memory of the world-renowned Muslim scholar Al-Biruni, Vice-Chancellor Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan said that Al-Biruni had exceptional expertise in mathematics, astronomy, geography, chemistry, history, linguistics, and theology.
He expressed his gratitude to the organizers for arranging such a program in honor of Al-Biruni. Emphasizing the importance of disseminating Al-Biruni’s life, works, and educational philosophy throughout society, the Vice-Chancellor stated that the university seeks collective efforts from all public and private universities, colleges, NGOs, and national and regional institutions across the country in the fields of education and research.
He called upon all concerned to contribute to overall socio-economic development through joint and collaborative education and research initiatives, as well as by strengthening partnerships and networking.
