Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh has filed a case against more than 50 leaders and activists of BNP over an alleged attack during a “Yes” vote campaign in Bogura’s Dhunat, leaving at least five Jamaat activists injured.
Abdul Karim, secretary of Dhunat upazila Jamaat-e-Islami, said the attack took place at Elengi Bazar around 5pm on Saturday while Jamaat activists were campaigning in favour of the “Yes” vote.
He alleged that a group of more than 50 BNP leaders and activists, led by a local leader, demanded the campaign be stopped, triggering an argument that later turned violent.
Jamaat leaders claimed BNP activists used sticks and bricks during the attack, injuring five people.
The injured were identified as Ziaur Rahman Thandu, 45, Ayub Ali, 49, Masud Rana, 40, Abu Bakkar, 45, and Samiul Islam Sonet, 32.
Officer-in-Charge Atikul Islam of the Dhunat Police Station confirmed that a case has been registered, naming 14 accused and mentioning more than 50 unidentified BNP activists.
