Public Administration Day was celebrated at the University of Dhaka through various programmes on Tuesday.
The day’s activities included a rally, a discussion meeting, a reception for newly admitted students and a farewell ceremony for outgoing students of the Department of Public Administration, as well as a cultural programme, according to a press release.
The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Dhaka, Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan, was present at the event as the chief guest.
The day is observed every year with the aim of building a bridge between the new and outgoing students of the Department of Public Administration.
The programme was held at the TSC Auditorium under the chairmanship of Professor Dr Syeda Lasna Kabir, chairperson of the Department of Public Administration.
The Chairman of the Bangladesh Public Service Commission, Professor Dr Mobasser Monem, attended the event as the special guest.
Among others, speeches were delivered by the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Professor Dr Tayebur Rahman; Proctor Professor Saifuddin Ahmed; Supernumerary Professor of the Department of Public
Administration, Dr Aka Firoz Ahmed; Member of the Bangladesh Public Service Commission, Professor Dr Ferdous Arfina Osman; Chairman of the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission, Md Jalal Ahmed; President of the Public Administration Alumni Association, Selim Ahmed; General Secretary ASM Humayun Kabir; and Treasurer Ahsan Habib.
The programme was conducted by Assistant Professors Shehrin Amin Bhuiyan and Md. Rabiul Islam. In his speech, Vice-Chancellor Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan said that the Department of Public Administration was established in 1972.
He expressed his gratitude to those involved in the establishment of the department. Calling upon the students to develop themselves as skilled human resources to survive in the competitive global environment, he emphasised the importance of participating in seminars and workshops, learning at least one foreign language, developing public speaking skills, learning CV-writing techniques, and acquiring practical and applied education.
The Vice-Chancellor said that the reputation of the university must be enhanced through work and urged students to strengthen networking and relationships with various stakeholders and institutions in society.
